PRAXIS Core

The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests (Praxis Core) measure skills in three different academic areas: reading, writing, and mathematics. The tests provide a comprehensive assessment of whether a teacher candidate has the necessary skills and content knowledge.

Teacher candidates must complete all three of the Praxis Core tests prior to admission into the Elementary Education bachelor of science program at United Tribes Technical College.

Registration Information

For complete information about registration visit www.ets.org/praxis. The Praxis Core tests are only available in the computer-delivered format. For assistance in registering for a Praxis exam, see Jenifer Heid, Room 122 in the Education Building.

Test Registration By Mail (Project CEDAR & Project SAGE Candidates)
If a member of the Teacher Education Department registers for a test on your behalf or you are registering yourself for a test by mail, a test voucher will be sent to you in the mail. After you receive your voucher, you must schedule your test appointment online, using the voucher number sent to you. The voucher must be used within 1 calendar year from the date of the voucher.

Test Costs

Effective June 1, 2015, each Praxis Core test is $90. The combined test (all three) is $150. Payments must be made out to ETS directly and be paid by check, money order, credit/debit card, or with PayPal. Checks and money orders must be made out to ETS — The Praxis Series. Orders received without payment or incorrect payment may be returned.

Score Reports

In order for UTTC to receive a copy of your score, you must use code 6425 as the recipient code to indicate UTTC as your institution.

Your official score report will be available to you via your My Praxis account approximately 2-3 weeks after the test date. See the ETS website for more information on retrieving your Praxis Scores.

What to bring on test day

ETS will send you information explaining where/when to report and what to do on test day. It is recommended to print this information and take with you to the testing center. You will also need a government issued ID.

Acceptable forms of ID:

  • Driver's license
  • State ID card
  • Passport
  • National ID card
  • Military ID card

If you do not have your ID at the testing site, you WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to take the exam. If this happens, you will have re-register and pay to take the test again.

Retaking the Praxis

There is no limit to how many times you can retake an exam. ETS does require a wait period of 21 days before retaking a test. There is a fee for each time you take a test so it is best to be prepared for the very first exam you take.

Praxis 1: PreProfessional Skills Test (PPST) — Discontinued

ETS discontinued the use of the Praxis I PPST tests as of August 2014. UTTC Teacher Education students who have completed all three of the PPST tests and received qualifying scores do not need to take the Praxis Core.

Students who have not completed and passed all 3 PPST tests prior to August 2014 will have to test again in each area under the new Core testing system to meet the new scoring criteria. The former PPST tests will no longer be available after August 2014.
